What are the main differences between the Flip Mino and Kodak ZX1 camcorders?
While there are many difference between the two (see specifications in store for details) the two main differences as they relate to the performance of the hatcam are weight, memory, and battery type. The Flip Mino has a more sleek frame and is a smaller profile camcorder, making it slightly lighter than the Kodak ZX1. The battery types also differ - The Mino is powered by an internal rechargeable lithium-ion battery while the Kodak ZX1 is powered by AA batteries (which will add to the overall weight). There is also a difference in memory - The Flip Mino has an hour of built Flash Memory (see how to optimize the one hour of memory below). The Kodak ZX1 takes external SD cards (up to 32 GB).

I want to film activities like hunting and fishing, which typically last longer than 60 minutes. Is this a problem when using the Flip Mino?
In most cases it's not, and here's why. When you stop recording, the camcorder saves what you recorded as a clip. If, for example, you are fishing and don't catch anything for a while, quickly take the hatcam off, press the delete button (deletes the most recent clip) and press the record button again. You now have a fresh 60 minutes of video. If a fish is caught, or something noteworthy happens (a fish breaks off, something funny occurs, or anything film-worthy happens) simply stop the video and start a new clip. Your good clip is automatically saved. Each clip is relatively short because the clips that aren't desired are deleted. So you can fish or hunt all day and at the end of the trip you will have only saved good video. This simple way of utilizing the recording time can easily allow you to film a 6-8 hours fishing or hunting trip.

I'm not computer savvy. How easy is it to load the video onto my PC or Mac?
Both camcorders plug into a PC or MAC via the USB port. Simply plug the camcorder into the USB port on your PC or MAC, and the camcorder software will automatically launch the camcorder software which will allow you to:

  • Browse, play, and delete your videos.
  • Save your videos to your computer.
  • Make custom movies with music.
  • Snap photos from your videos.
  • Share you videos online or by email.
  • Upload to YouTube and other video sharing Web Sites.

Does the camcorder feel heavy on the brim of the hat?
The reason why we utilize the pocket camcorders is because they are the lightest camcorders on the market. Both camcorders are so light you'll forget you're wearing the hatcam. Our patent pending mounting system was designed to give the camcorder added stability. The mounting system and camcorder make the hatcam so stable and lightweight that you will be completely satisfied with the "feel" of the hatcam. You'll forget it's even on. That's our promise to you.

I have my own pocket camcorder or want to buy a different camcorder whats offered at Hatcams.com. If I buy the hat separately, will the camcorder fit?
If your camera or camcorder is tripod compatible, it will fit our hat! Our hats utilizes the universal tripod mount found on nearly every camera and camcorder. This is a standard 1/4 X 20 thread size used in the camera industry. If your camera or camcorder has the thread on the underside, you can buy the hat separately and it will fit our hat!

Can I purchase the mount separately from the hat?
No. Our mounting system is manufactured into the brim of the hat. This is meant to maximize the stability of the mounting system so you get the most stable video quality possible!
